The Sunday Post (Newcastle)

Restaurant of the week

Viva Garden 61 Main Street, Prestwick

-

Location

Situated right in the heart of the town, it’s easy to find and easily accessible by car or public transport.

First Impressions

This tiny little restaurant is packed to the rafters. With a ceiling decked out in flowers and countless lucky cats, it’s simple, but cute. We walk in without a booking and are very fortunate to get a table.

Service

Just two waitresses are serving the tables and dealing with the steady stream of takeaway orders at the front desk and on the phone on a busy Sunday night. They don’t falter, though, and are very attentive and smiling throughout. Food is piping hot when it comes to the table, drinks are prompt and they make a special fuss over the little diners in tow.

Menu

There’s a very extensive menu, including all the classic Chinese dishes, from dim sum, soup and spring rolls for starters to szechuan and sweet and sour for mains. There’s also a selection of Thai and Teriyaki dishes. We’re just in time for the pre-theatre menu, which has a great selection for a very reasonable price.

Taste

The spare ribs and mini spring rolls are superb - and set the tone for a delicious meal. The shredded crispy chicken is divine, as is the salt and chilli chicken. They come with plenty of rice and noodles on the side which are lipsmackingly good too.

Ambience

It’s cosy and, despite a busy service, we feel relaxed and not rushed at all. The fact it’s so popular speaks volumes. If people can’t get a table, they’re happy to enjoy Viva Garden in the comfort of their own homes!

Price

At just over £50 for two adults and two kids, including drinks, it’s an absolute bargain. Fantastic food for a great price.
