Autumn is few gardeners’ favourite time of year but there is still work to be done, ,and at least the digging is easier now we’ve had a little (or a lot of…) rain. Sue Kent replants a difficult border, using lavender she grew from cuttings, and also pots up some allium bulbs ready for spring.

Monty Don, meanwhile, is planting a tasteful and inspiring mix of white flowers for his writing garden, and Adam Frost takes a different tack, embracing colour with a visit to a seasonal plot in Essex.
