Eilish is a superstar on and off the track

Eilish McColgan is a magnificent athlete and a pretty cool person. Watching her surge to the finishing line to snatch the gold in the 10,000m final at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games this summer was a sight to behold.

And my admiration for her just grew this week with her response to the news that the records she set in the Great Scottish Run had been invalidated because the course in Glasgow was found to be 150m short.

The 31-year-old had set a new British record and surpassed her own European record. You could forgive her for being quite rightly a bit peeved at all this. Instead, this was her response “Human errors happen. The organisers have been so apologetic. I have no bad words to say. It’s not the end of the world.” On and off the track, she’s a star.
