Richard Laxton’s 2014 biopic tells the story of the titular bride’s doomed marriage to Victorian art critic John Ruskin. It’s now notable as the last film appearance of Robbie Coltrane, alongside his Tutti Frutti co-star Emma Thompson. In a 2006 South Bank Show tribute, she said her wish for steamship enthusiast Coltrane was that he “spend as much time as he wants and needs with his nuts and bolts, oiling his calm side, in his little boat, laughing”.
