A camera on board the V-2 No.13 rocket takes the first photograph of Earth from outer space. The rocket, a modified version of one of many seized from defeated Nazi Germany and transported to the USA after the war, reached a maximum altitude of 65 miles after being launched from the White Sands Missile Range in White Sands, New Mexico.
