Rare surviving copies of the first The Broons and Oor Wullie Christmas annuals have fetched thousands of pounds at auction. The original children’s books, dating back to 1939 and 1940 respectively, went under the hammer in Bonhams in Edinburgh. The 83-year-old paper-bound Broons annual featured on its cover the whole family while the Oor Wullie featured The Sunday Post icon with his famous slogan “Oor Wullie! Your Wullie! A’body’s Wullie!” The Broons annual was snapped up by a collector for £1,150 while the 82-year-old Oor Wullie book was bought for £2,170.
