When Monkees songwriter Bobby Hart heard The Beatles’ Paperback Writer on the radio, he thought Paul McCartney was singing “take the last train”. The misheard lyric seemed too good to lose so Hart recycled it in the Beatlesque Last Train To Clarksville. It was one of eight Top 30 hits for The Monkees, and featured prominently in their spin-off TV show.
