FM urged into action at Cop
Nicola Sturgeon has been urged to use her trip to Cop27 to trigger meaningful moves to curb Scotland’s emissions.
A coalition of 60 environmental groups have urged Sturgeon, who is expected to be in Egypt until Wednesday, to build on the international recognition of her Cop26 speech in Glasgow last year.
Stop Climate Chaos Scotland welcomed her calls for more financial reparations for communities impacted by the crisis but said domestic emissions must be urgently cut.
Mike Robinson, chair of the organisation, said: “We urge the Scottish Government to bolster the leadership it showed at Cop26 by saying no to new oil and gas developments and prioritising and managing a just transition to renewables.”
The Scottish Government said: “To help accelerate progress towards net zero, we will be publishing a draft updated Climate Change Plan next year, setting out policies to make further progress to our 2045 net-zero target.”
