Canadian pays penalty of footy theft

-

“A 43-year-old Canadian, who only arrived in Scotland a few days ago, found his visit to the Dundee-Celtic match yesterday little short of disaster,” wrote The Post.

“A pickpocket stole a wallet containing $3,200 Canadian – equivalent to £1,500 – from Mr Hugh Williamson. He thinks the theft happened just as the game was about to start.

“His leather wallet, which is of the folding type, was in his hip pocket. The money was made up of 20 $100 bills and 24 $50 bills. Also in the wallet were his driver’s licence and two silver dollar pieces cut in half. Williamson is in Scotland visiting his brother, who recently had a heart attack.

“The brother lives in Inverness, but Williamson was so keen to see Celtic play he made the journey south. Williamson works as a painter in Ontario and is due to return home at the end of this week.”
