Garden of the week
Dawyck Botanic Garden, near Stobo in the Borders, has one of the finest tree collections in Scotland and these are at their very best right now.
They cover 25 hectares of high-altitude hillside and include rare specimens from Asia and North America, some broad-leafed and on the turn and others soaring pines. Many of Dawyck’s dense shrubs also take on vivid colours and the Scrape Burn, that runs through the middle of the garden, is lined in places with stream side plantings.
