Aberdeen thrashed Dundee United 5-1 at Pittodrie.

The Dons’ goals came from Neale Cooper, Doug Rougvie (above) with a double, Eric Black and Gordon Strachan.

Hibs defender Jackie McNamara was sent off after 35 minutes of his side’s 3-0 defeat at St Mirren.

The 30-year-old then threw his jersey at referee Joseph Timmons of Kilwinning.

Kilmarnock got their first league win as they beat Morton 3-0. Their scorers were Jim Clark, Brian Gallacher and John Bourke.

50 YEARS AGO

George ‘Dandy’ McLean bagged a brace as Ayr United beat Motherwell 3-2.

Davie McCulloch also scored for the Honest Men, with Bobby Watson and Willie McLymont replying.

Hearts defeated Falkirk 3-1. Alan Anderson, Eric Carruthers and Donald Park hit the net.

East Fife goalie Dave Gorman suffered a fractured hand in his team’s 2-1 win against Dumbarton.

Coventry City won 2-0 at Arsenal, with goals from Scots Brian Alderson (above) and Tommy Hutchison.

60 YEARS AGO

Stevie Chalmers got a hattrick as Celtic beat St Mirren 7-0 at Love Street.

Rangers and Dunfermlin­e drew 1-1 at Ibrox. Both goals were from the penalty spot – Davie Wilson converting for the home side and Willie Cunningham for the Pars.

West Ham lost Scottish internatio­nal goalkeeper, Lawrie Leslie (above), with a broken leg during their 2-1 defeat by Bolton Wanderers.

Denis Law scored a hattrick in the first 19 minutes of Manchester United’s 5-3 victory over reigning league champions, Ipswich Town.
