US mother held after Twitter post

A 34-year-old American woman has been detained in Saudi Arabia after she posted on Twitter that she and her young daughter had been trapped in the kingdom since 2019.

Carly Morris went to Saudi Arabia to allow her eight-year-old daughter to meet her paternal grandfather.

But once there she was unable to take her daughter home, due to the objections of her Saudi ex-husband.

Morris was detained on Sunday in connection with an allegation that she was “destabilising public order”.

It followed Morris’s publication of a statement on Twitter, in which she warned other women and children against visiting the kingdom.

She claimed she and her daughter were being held against their will.
