Two die in road crash

An elderly man and woman died and another person was injured in a two-vehicle crash in the Borders.

The collision took place on the A697 near Lauder around 4.30pm on Friday.

A red Kia Venga and a blue Kia Sportage were involved in the accident between Greenlaw and Carfraemill.

Kia Venga, along with his 85-year-old female passenger were pronounced dead at the scene.

The female driver of the Kia Sportage was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for treatment.

Police said they were appealing for witnesses.
