Stricken groom undergoes op then ties the knot from his sickbed

-

“The story of a remarkable sick-room marriage in Glasgow is revealed today,” read The Post.

“The bridegroom, lying seriously ill at his home, is ship’s engineer Mr William Richmond. He arrived at his home in the Maryhill district of Glasgow some time ago. He took seriously ill, and his doctor advised an operation.

Mr Richmond was engaged to be married to a Glasgow lady, Miss Agnes Dickson Smith, and he decided, if possible, to carry out his promise. The only course open was for the marriage to take place at the bridegroom’s bedside. Sheriff Harvey was consulted and he agreed to go to Mr Richmond’s house and perform the ceremony.”
