Hancock is a disgrace so get him out of there

£25 STAR LETTER

-

There’s not much left to be said about Matt Hancock getting £400,000 to join I’m A Celebrity but I’m as angry now as the day it was announced. How dare he and why is it being allowed?

He was in charge at Westminster during the pandemic when thousands of families lost loved ones and when we all had – and still have – really serious questions about how the governments in England and Scotland prepared and reacted.

And Hancock, knowing his political career is over, thinks it is okay to sit around a campfire in a reality TV show and justify himself. He should be giving his explanations under oath in a court of law. He is an absolute disgrace.

The only time I want to hear from him is when he is explaining to the public inquiry why all his pals made millions of pounds on PPE contracts and why thousands of care home residents died despite him promising they were surrounded by a ring of steel. Andrew Innes, Glasgow

The phone-in kings

Why can’t people see that Ant and Dec are simply the kings of moneygenerating viewer phone-in shows? That’s all they ever present.

Elsie the greatest

The headline on your interview with Elsie Cook (Elsie the Great, Sunday Post last week) could not have been more appropriate.

What an absolutely amazing, inspirational woman. Women footballers are still facing terrible sexism so you can only imagine how bad it was in the 1970s. For her to ignore all that rubbish and follow her dream is so impressive. Elsie the great? Elsie the greatest. Gillean McLaren, Perth

No scarves please!

I wish people wouldn’t give old relatives scarves at Christmas. Not being ungrateful, but I have a drawer full of them.

I would like something I could really enjoy like a piece of Stilton cheese or a tin of salted cashew nuts. It would be nice to put my feet up and savour the treat and not just stick another scarf in a drawer. Where’s the joy in that? Mary Kerr, Girvan

Cup full of shame

There is always criticism and concern before every big sporting tournament but the World Cup in Qatar feels different. When there is so much focus on inclusivity and equality, for this global contest to be given to a country where some fans can’t walk down the street holding hands still seems incredible to me. Fifa should feel ashamed.

Jeanie Sears, by email No glass cheques

When I was a wee girl, we used to get money back on empty glass bottles. Ordinary ginger bottles got 5p but a big Coke bottle was a prize because you got double for one of them. I was explaining this to my granddaughter who looked amazed at the whole thing. Her mum had to explain things had changed, though, after she brought home five wee plastic Coke bottles she had found at school.
