Players are now paying the price of Qatar failings
Dier hits the mark as Infantino causes more controversy
The World Cup Finals in Qatar kick off today, mired in yet more controversy.
The Gulf nation’s human rights record, treatment of migrant workers and oppressive LGBTQ+ laws have dominated the build-up.
And in an hour-long speech yesterday, FIFA president, Gianni Infantino, fanned the flames with an extraordinary monologue.
Infantino (left) declared “today I feel gay” and “today I feel a migrant worker” early on in his speech in Doha.
He also called on Europe to consider the past 3,000 years before anyone starts moralising about Qatar.
It left England defender, Eric Dier, having to field questions on issues that have nothing to do with football, and he didn’t hold back.
“It’s extremely difficult every day for all of us as players,” said Dier.
“We have absolutely no say in where we play.
“Those decisions are made by people way above us, and obviously we’re the ones who end up sitting here having to answer these kind of questions.
“For us, and every team in the competition, it’s disappointing.”
