Dunfermline stay top after convincing win

-

PETERHEAD 0 DUNFERMLINE 2

Peterhead started with a strong wind at their backs and were first to threaten when a Wilkie header from a corner went close.

Dunfermline took the lead when a Todd drive from 30 yards took a wicked deflection and looped over the unfortunate Ritchie in the Blue Toon goal.

Mochrie then extended Dunfermline’s advantage with a well-struck shot after good work from Fisher. Dow tried to get Peterhead back in the game with a piledriver from 30 yards but Mehmet was equal to it.

With the wind at the backs Dunfermline dominated proceedings in the second half with Mochrie and Chalmers forcing Ritchie to produce two excellent saves to keep Peterhead in it.

The Blue Toon kept fighting and had a couple of late chances when first Comrie made a great block when Gillies had a clear sight of goal and then Jason Brown had a headed effort saved from the resultant corner.

CLYDE 3 FALKIRK 3

Clyde secured a second draw of Jim Duffy’s managerial tenure after a six-goal thriller that saw the Bairns slip seven points behind league leaders Dunfermline.

Falkirk made the early running and their endeavour was almost rewarded when Brad McKay’s header was deflected narrowly over after eight minutes.

Then Aidan Nesbitt cut in from the flank only to fire wide of target before the opener duly arrived.

Leon McCann made the running with a precise pass to Callumn Morrison who steadied himself before firing high into the net.

But Clyde stormed back to turn the match on its head before the break when first Steven Thicot found space in the visiting box to convert Peter Grant’s pass.

Then, four minutes from the break, in-form Jordan Allan, sent through by Morgaro Gomis, ran free before producing a clinical finish.

Falkirk hit back on the restart

when Ola Lawal found Gary Oliver, who beat Neil Parry from 14 yards.

The sides traded further blows with Allan adding his second before the Bairns levelled again through Lawal’s classy finish.

Morrison and Juan Alegria both went close to clinching victory for the Bairns but Clyde held on for their point.

AIRDRIE 1 KELTY 0

Airdrie enjoyed the better chances in a goalless first half. With 21 minutes gone Cammy Ballantyne was on target from inside the penalty box after Callum Fordyce had cut the ball back from a freekick.

With eight minutes of the half remaining, the break of the ball saw it fall nicely to Callum Smith and his low-drilled shot from 25 yards was well saved by keeper Darren Jamieson.

In 61 minutes, Alfredo Agyeman’s shot was deflected into the path of Joe Cardle and his effort was net bound until keeper Dean Lyness pulled off a terrific reflex save.

With 20 minutes remaining some fine play by the home side through Craig Watson and Lewis Jamieson created a chance for Jamieson, whose 20-yard shot was

parried by keeper Jamieson and Calum Gallagher was on hand to send the rebound into the net. It proved to be the winner in a hardfought match.

QOS 4 MONTROSE 0

QUEEN of the South dismantled homesick Montrose at Palmerston Park.

Ruari Paton got the ball rolling for the hosts after four minutes when he turned the ball home from 12 yards into the middle of the net.

Paton scored his second on 33 minutes after he slid in to stab home Gavin Reilly’s flick from close range.

Queens had the points virtually wrapped up when Paton headed back across the face of goal in 54 minutes for Reilly to dive full length and bullet it home into the middle of the net from a few yards.

The Doonhamers continued to batter the visitors and netted fourth on 52 minutes when a teasing Lewis Gibson cross from the right was met by a powerful header from Josh Todd high into the net.

A nearside bust-up with several players wading in 67 minutes ended with home defender Rico

Quitongo picking up a second yellow.

FC EDINBURGH 4 ALLOA 3

Ryan Shanley’s hat-trick saw Edinburgh win a seven-goal thriller at New Meadowbank as Alloa squandered an early 3-0 lead while also missing a penalty and having a player sent off.

Andy Graham headed the Wasps in front after only three minutes. Further headers from Luke Donnelly and Graham again made it 3-0 within the opening 17 minutes, leaving Alloa seemingly well on course for a fourth win in five games.

The shell-shocked home side faced a mountain to climb but Shanley crucially threw them a lifeline when he pulled one back before half time and then added another after the break.

Stefan Scougall then missed from the penalty spot before Cameron O’Donnell was redcarded in a disastrous fourminute spell for the visitors.

The tide had turned and, after Danny Handling equalised, Shanley completed his hat-trick and an epic fightback with the winner 12 minutes from time.
