John McGinn’s brilliant goal against Turkey has made him the sixth highest all-time scorer for Scotland.

With 52 caps, the midfielder is now on 15 goals – the same as James McFadden – and no doubt he now has Kenny Miller and Ally McCoist in his sights.

But he has a bit to go before he catches up with Denis Law and yours truly. We are joint-top scorers on 30.

So my message to John is just to take it easy – and slow down with the goals!

On a more serious note, it’s never nice to suffer a defeat, but Steve Clarke would have taken plenty from this game.

Craig Gordon showed his worth yet again with two or three very good saves.

Sure, it’s going to be a major headache trying to replace him, but let’s enjoy him. I think he can play through to the Euro 2024 Finals if we make it.

It was also a real positive to see Calvin Ramsay make his Scotland debut.

He has been doing very well for Liverpool, and his first full cap will be the icing on the cake for him in what has been a very good four or five-month period.

Calvin is only 19, but is very mature for his age, and speaks very well in public.

You could tell from his post-match interview in Turkey just how thrilled and proud he was to have played for his country.

Going forward, I believe he will be a true asset.

That’s the national team now in cold storage until March. It’s a long wait, but Steve and his staff will be working tirelessly to get things spot on for then.

We have a tough section to qualify for Euro 2024, but we must believe that Spain and Norway are not unbeatable.

There is some outstanding talent in our squad, so we have a good chance.

Let’s hope we do it because we are all feeling the pain today with the World Cup about to start in Qatar.

We don’t want to be missing out again in two years’ time when the Euros get under way in Germany.
