Peter Capaldi (right) is wonderful channelling the creepiest aspects of the menacing Malcolm Tucker in serial killer thriller The Devil’s Hour.

The former Dr Who’s excellent performance is one of a pair of great showings from Scots. Fresh from appearing as an amusingly obsequious corporate corporal in Andor,Alex Ferns plays a shifty, slightly useless copper.

Ferns’ slightly squeaky, rasping voice on top of his barrel of a body brings an unusual and compelling presence we first saw in his brilliant turn as a grim, naked mining foreman in Chernobyl. Give him more roles, please.
