Zelensky: Millions of homes in power cuts
President Volodymyr Zelensky said millions of people in Ukraine were left without power after recent Russian missile strikes targeted at Ukrainian infrastructure.
Twelve million homes were cut off on Wednesday, according to the president, with more than six million still affected days later.
Yesterday, the Kyiv administration said water had been restored in the city, but about 130,000 residents remain without electricity. Meanwhile, Vladimir Putin’s Russian forces are now using old cruise missiles which have been stripped of their nuclear warheads. This is due to their conventional stocks being depleted, according to the Ministry of Defence (MoD).
An intelligence update from the MoD revealed pictures of what is believed to be AS-15 Ken air-launched cruise missiles, which were shot down and are thought to have been designed in the 1980s as a nuclear delivery system.
In the update, the MoD said the desperate improvisation was “unlikely to achieve reliable effects” but is likely being used as a distraction to Ukrainian air defences.
The MoD said: “Whatever Russia’s intent, this improvisation highlights the level of depletion in Russia’s stock of long-range missiles.”
