We help 84-year-old in care home win TV licence refund

-

John Slymand is in the pink after Raw Deal helped him get £185 back that he had overpaid for his TV licence.

The 84-year-old, from Edinburgh, had to move into a care home earlier this year after he had been hospitalised.

When he moved into the care facility on a permanent basis, his son-in-law Scott Lynch tried to claim back money Slymand had paid for his TV licence at his previous and unoccupied address.

Lynch said: “I notified TV Licensing that I would like a refund as the house is empty and up for sale. I also asked for a refund from May to July as dad was in hospital and the house was empty.”

However, despite sending proof of Slymand’s change of circumstances to TV Licensing on a number of occasions, he felt he was getting nowhere, so he wrote to Raw Deal.

When we contacted TV Licensing about the issue, it wasn’t long before it was resolved and Slymand was refunded £185.

TV Licensing said: “We have been in contact with Mr Slymand’s son-in-law to confirm the correct documentation was provided to process the refund. This has been done and we’ve confirmed to him the refund will be issued.”

Both Lynch and his father-in-law were delighted with the outcome after making little progress themselves.

He added: “Thank you so much for your help with this issue. A fantastic result in double-quick time.”
