MORTON 1

McGrattan (45)

Morton manager Dougie Imrie was disappointed his side didn’t build on their first-half lead through Lewis McGrattan as Arbroath got themselves back on level terms two minutes after the restart through David Gold.

The Cappielow outfit maintained their unbeaten run though and are now without a defeat in 10.

“First half I thought we did OK, but second half we never applied ourselves enough,” Imrie said.

“The goal we lose is really poor on our part. I knew they’d get a rocket at half-time and would come out with fire in their belly.

“I would have taken a point before we came here, it’s a difficult place at the best of times.”

Arbroath probed for an early opener as Scott Allan had an opportunity with a volley from just inside the box saved by Brian Schwake.

Allan then sent in a ball from the right that found Tam O’Brien on 12 minutes with a goalbound header that Efe Ambrose blocked off the line.

Morton took the lead just before half-time with McGrattan going on a run before breaking into the box and smashing home an 18-yard effort beyond the reach of Gaston.

That didn’t faze the Red Lichties though and they equalised two minutes after the restart, Daniel Fosu broke forward and found Gold who rifled a fine effort beyond Schwake.

Robbie Crawford had the ball in the net for Morton but was denied by the offside flag on 71 minutes after some good build-up play from the Cappielow side. Just a minute later, a Michael McKenna cross found Daniel Fosu who headed just wide.

Colin Hamilton almost won the game for Arbroath with two minutes left but his header from Marcel Oakley’s cross hit the side netting.

Arbroath assistant manager Ian Campbell thinks his side still has higher levels to show saying: “Can we play a lot better than that? Of course we can.

“Overall, we did well as Morton are a good side with one or two quality players but we are battling like hell and there’s a lot more to come from us, we are up for the challenge.”
