Quick strikes set Buckie on way to victory

-

Two goals in two minutes put BUCKIE THISTLE in charge of their Highland League Cup secondround visit to FORMARTINE.

Josh Peters’ strike was swiftly followed by a cool Scott Adams finish halfway through the first half. Peters scored a second eight minutes before the break, but Graeme Rodger pulled one back soon after to give United hope. Graeme Stewart’s men then made sure they kept things tight at the back in the second half to progress.

FORRES MECHANICS were first out of the blocks at BANKS O’ DEE, Ryan McLeman putting them in front after five minutes. That goal was soon cancelled out by Kane Winton. Lewis Crosbie put Dee in front on 65 minutes and Jack Henderson hit a third in the 86th minute. Callum Jonnston pulled one back a minute later.

LOSSIEMOUTH went out 2-0 at home to BRECHIN CITY. Grady McGrath drilled the ball low into the net at the back post just before the break, and Fraser Macleod scored halfway through the second half as he jinked one way then the other before slotting home.

Just one goal separated hosts TURRIFF UNITED and INVERURIE LOCOS and it was 16-year-old midfield debutant Blair Smith who was to be the hero for Locos when he was on hand to volley home after captain Greg Mitchell created danger on the right. Max Foster collected two yellows in quick succession late on.

In league action, Andy Hunter (2), Ross Still, Angus Grant and Cammy Blacklock scored as HUNTLY went nap against WICK ACADEMY, whose scorers in the 5-2 defeat were Mark Macadie and Jack Henry. Wick’s Jack Halliday was also sent off with the score at 3-2.

Hosts KEITH and FRASERBURGH shared four goals and the points. Paul Young and Scott Barbour netted for Keith, with Kieran Mooney and Dem Yunus counting for the Broch. Keith keeper Craig Reid saved a Sean Butcher penalty.

STRATHSPEY TH were beaten 7-0 at home by ROTHES, Aiden Wilson getting a hat-trick, Gary Kerr a double and Fraser Robertson and Bruce Milne singles.
