Kelty in charge as Davie is disappointed

-

KELTY HEARTS 3 PETERHEAD 0

Kelty dominated the match, but couldn’t find the net until a minute into the second half, eventually running out comfortable winners against the basement side.

It was a disappointing start for new manager David Robertson’s Peterhead side and, to make matters worse, they ended with 10 men after Andrew McDonald got a second yellow in the 82nd minute when he gave away a penalty for a foul on Nathan Austin.

The Maroon Machine had lost four of their last five matches, but they put the pressure on from the start and Nicky Low came close in the third minute.

Five minutes later, his longrange shot went narrowly past the upright.

Danny Strachan brought a fine save from Kelty keeper Darren Jamieson in the 11th minute and then, on the half-hour mark, Kallum Higginbothan saw his shot stopped by the visiting keeper.

It took Kelty only a minute to break the deadlock in the second half when Thomas O’Ware headed home a corner from Low.

The Fifers found it difficult to turn their pressure into goals and in the 76th minute Michael Hewitt had a chance for the Blue Toon, but his shot went over the bar.

On 82 minutes, McDonald’s foul resulted in his sending-off and Low hit the top corner of the net with the spot-kick.

Alfred Agyeman came close with an 87th-minute header, but he made no mistake on 90 minutes when he fired in No. 3 from 12 yards.

DUNFERMLINE 1 QUEEN OF THE SOUTH 1

Dunfermline saw their lead at the top of League 1 cut to five points, but the Pars were relieved to maintain their unbeaten home record.

Following four wins in their previous six league games, the Dumfries club more than matched the Fifers in every department to suggest that they are well capable of challenging for promotion after being relegated last season.

Both teams had gone close before Ruari Paton fired the visitors in front at the end of the first half.

Paul McKay’s header almost made it 2-0 early in the second period, but Dunfermline then hit their stride and began peppering the Queens goal.

Sub Nikolay Todorov headed them level midway through the half and, although the same player shot inches wide in stoppagetime, the visitors also had plenty of chances in an entertaining last 20 minutes.

CLYDE 0 EDINBURGH CITY 2

James Craigen tested Neil Parry early on as the visitors started brightly, though clear-cut chances were scarce.

The hosts responded with a Morgano Gomis header that was too close to Robbie Mutch before the visitors broke the deadlock thanks to John Robertson’s fine header that went high into the net from a tight angle.

Erik Sula almost hit back four minutes later, but his 20-yard shot was saved by Mutch.

But Edinburgh looked just as likely to double their lead and they almost did so when Ryan Shanley’s angled drive forced a fine diving stop from Parry.

Ray Grant’s shot was saved by Mutch as the Bully Wee showed attacking intent on the restart.

Jordan Allan also saw a header saved before Danial Handling delivered the knockout blow, taking a Shanley pass before drilling powerfully home with the aid of a deflection.

Clyde refused to throw in the towel, but were denied even a consolation goal and now languish 11 points behind thirdbottom Kelty.

FALKIRK 1 AIRDRIEONIANS 1

The visitors threatened three times in the opening 10 minutes, but Callum Smith was unable to make his early efforts break the deadlock.

On 19 minutes, Coll Donaldson’s 20-yard free-kick was turned away by keeper Dean Lyness, but he was beaten on 26 minutes after Donaldson’s excellent cross picked out Kai Kennedy and his instant control allowed a fine angled volley to fly into the net for the opening goal.

Rumarn Burrell went close in 34 minutes, heading Callumn Morrison‘s cross from the right against the side-netting.

Airdrie enjoyed the first quarterof-an-hour after the restart, with Calum Gallagher unable to

control the ball inside the box as the visitors looked threatening.

In 58 minutes, Cammy Ballantyne’s good run on the right was followed up with a net-bound shot inside the box, but it caught a defender’s head and went over.

With 79 minutes played, the Diamonds deservedly equalised

after Gabby McGill and Gallagher combined to set up Smith to score from inside the box.

MONTROSE 0 ALLOA 0

After 11 minutes, Stefan Scougall had a good chance for the visitors, but shot straight at Ross Sinclair.

At the other end, Rory McAllister headed a cross from Graham Webster just over on 23 minutes, before Craig Brown might have put the home side ahead, but his shot from a narrow angle finished in the side netting.

It was end-to-end play and, on the stroke of half-time, Alloa’s Conor Sammon headed over from a good position inside the box.

With five minutes of regulation time left, Stefan Scougall might have secured the points for The Wasps, but his 25-yard effort was well saved by Sinclair.

In time added, Alloa substitute Kieran Offord went down in the box, but referee Grant Irvine waved away penalty claims before booking the player for simulation.
