It was my 50th birthday, just after losing my mum. My husband took me to Majorca so I could spend my dreaded day in the caves of Drach which turned out to be the most beautiful place. When we came home my husband went out to cut the grass and when I looked he had mowed a big 50 on the front grass. I was horrified but laughed later.

For my ninth birthday my parents took us all to the Riviera hotel, in Las Vegas. We loved swimming in the big pool, and watching Petula Clark in concert. After the dinner show, we went to the coffee shop for a late night dessert and were delighted to see Petula and her dancers in a big booth! It was the most amazing birthday.

My most memorable birthday was my 21st. My parents bought me a tape recorder that I still have today aged nearly 77. But the dream birthday would be to see my sons and their families. One lives in California, USA, the other in Melbourne Australia, but sadly I can’t travel to be with them due to ill health.

I remember my seventh birthday most, but probably not for the reasons you’d suspect. I had all the children lined up to take turns on my swing when my grandfather decided my cousin should have a go

Prince Louis has celebrated his magical sixth birthday, shared in photographs posted by his mother Princess Kate. What is your most memorable birthday ever and why was it so special? and put him on instead of the next child in the queue. I saw red and threw a rotten Bramley apple at him, hitting him right between the eyes. I have never run so fast in my life. Luckily, he did see the funny side later. Elizabeth O’Regan

Having just celebrated my 88th birthday, each birthday is more special than the last.

For my birthday in the early 1970s my grandfather bought me my very first record player. I was over the moon. And it meant I didn’t have to go to my friend’s house to play my records anymore.

My seventh birthday was my most memorable. We had just moved into a new house having previously lived all seven of us in a threeroom tenement with an outside toilet. Our new home was a palace in comparison with a front and back garden, living room, kitchen and a bathroom. My mum had a friend at work make my cake which was covered in sweets. It was amazing. The best birthday ever. Any birthday spent with my own now grown-up family is a dream for me.

My sixth birthday was wonderful. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs had just arrived in the cinema and my mum made me a full Snow White costume. I’ll never forget it.
