Casey rode his luck to lead the way

-

Casey Jarvis took a one-shot lead into this morning’s final round of the ISPS Handa Championship in Japan.

The South African, looking for a maiden DP World Tour win in his rookie season, made four birdies on the front nine to get into a share of the lead after turning in 31 but enjoyed a huge stroke of luck on the 11th after his wayward tee-shot bounced out of the trees to save par.

He went right again off the 14th tee but again bounced out onto the cart path, this time making the most of a drop to put an approach to tap-in range to lead on his own.

A closing birdie handed him a bogey-free 64 and a twoshot lead at 13-under before German Yannik Paul also took advantage of the par-five last to cut the gap to one with a 68.

A group of five players are two shots off the lead, one ahead of England’s Matthew Southgate who signed for a 68.

Top Scot was Richie Ramsay at eight-under in a tie for 21st, while Scott Jamieson was three shots further back. Ewen Ferguson sat on four-under-par and Calum Hill at three-under. ■ Wilco Nienaber takes a twostroke lead into today’s final round of the UAE Challenge after carding a third-round three-under-par 69 at Saadiyat Beach Golf Club.

The South African reached 12-under-par by posting seven birdies to leave him two shots clear of Swiss Benjamin Rusch and Englishmen Pavan Sagoo and David Horsey.

■ Belgium’s Manon De Roey fired a six-under 66 to sit three shots clear heading into today’s final round of SA Women’s Open at 14-under-par.

In second sits Ines Laklalech. The Moroccan had a fine afternoon carding seven birdies and one eagle but a double-bogey on the 17th halted her momentum.
