Restaurant of the week

-

Pizza Express South Street, St Andrews

Location

Right in the centre of stunning St Andrews, within walking distance of everywhere in the town.

First impressions

The restaurant was packed when we arrived, so much so that some of the dishes were sold out! The interiors are cool and modern, with interesting art, indoor plants and minimalist wooden design.

Service

Despite it being so busy, the staff quickly found our party of four a table in the main area.

Menu

The classic Pizza Express menu, with the choice of pizzas from thin-based Romana to the slightly chunkier classic version as well as Calzones and the rectangular Calabrese pizzas. There are also great starters like olives and slowroasted tomatoes as well as numerous pasta dishes to choose from.

Taste

We ordered chilli prawns, which came in a sauce of garlic butter, tomatoes, roasted peppers and chilli flakes with fresh tomatoes, red onion and parsley with dough balls on the side. The dish was fresh and spicy with lovely fresh, firm prawns cooked to perfection.

For main we had a classic pepperoni pizza. Hard to go wrong but this one was very much right with its spicy pepperoni juices combining with the lovely light dough.

Ambience

The restaurant had everyone from couples to students in larger groups and a few parents taking their child out for dinner, so the atmosphere was bubbling along well.

Value

Our bill for four came in at £80, which included starters and a couple of desserts and soft drinks. Pretty reasonable for a good amount of food.
