Man Group’s Ber­liand to be new TP ICAP chair­man

MAN GROUP di­rec­tor Richard Ber­liand is set to be the next chair­man of in­ter­dealer bro­ker TP ICAP, with an of­fi­cial an­nounce­ment ex­pected be­fore Christ­mas.

He will re­place cur­rent chair­man Ru­pert Rob­son, who is post­pon­ing plans to step down at the end of the year to smooth over the tran­si­tion, Sky News re­ported.

The com­pany had a chal­leng­ing sum­mer af­ter a profit warn­ing led to shares fall­ing in value by al­most a third and the de­par­ture of chief ex­ec­u­tive John Phiza­ck­er­ley.

Mr Ber­liand will work with Ni­co­las Breteau, the new CEO.

Mr Ber­liand has more than three decades of ex­pe­ri­ence in fi­nance, in­clud­ing im­por­tant roles at JP Mor­gan. He is cur­rently se­nior in­de­pen­dent di­rec­tor and chair­man of the re­mu­ner­a­tion com­mit­tee at in­vest­ment man- ager Man Group, which also presents the lit­er­ary Man Booker Prize.

Angela Knight, TP ICAP’S se­nior in­de­pen­dent di­rec­tor, led the search for a re­place­ment for Mr Rob­son.

TP ICAP is a mid­dle­man be­tween in­vest­ment banks to find buyers and sell­ers for dif­fer­ent as­sets. It is fa­mous for its char­ity days, which have in the past wel­comed the Duke and Duchess of Cam­bridge to the trad­ing floor.

TP ICAP and Man Group both de­clined to com­ment yes­ter­day.
