Tottenham man marking

- By Chris Bascombe at Wembley

Michel Vorm Dreadful mistake for opening goal was symptomatic of how much usual No 1 Hugo Lloris was missed. Made a few saves, but damage was done. 5 Kieran Trippier Unable to rove forward due to the problems caused by Liverpool’s pacy attack and surging Andy Robertson. Performed well in one-on-one duels. 6 Danny Rose Faced triple threat of Salah, AlexanderArnold and Milner seeking space on Spurs’ left. Started well but faded and looked exhausted at times in second half. 6 Toby Alderweireld Could have been a chastening experience had Liverpool taken opportunities in the second half. Tough for all the back line. 6 Jan Vertonghen Looks a class act, remaining composed in early stages when Liverpool’s front three went scurrying. Lucky not to score own goal. 6 Eric Dier Could have gifted Salah the opening goal with a woeful back-pass. Offered physical presence in congested midfield, but no creative edge. Average. 5 Harry Winks Conservative choice, Pochettino showing respect for the opponents. It was tactical, but the dynamism would have to come from elsewhere. 6 Mousa Dembele Beautiful to watch when in full stride, but could not do it enough. Shrugged off opponents with several gliding runs, too often in deep positions. Subbed. 6 Christian Eriksen Careless header led to the corner from which Wijnaldum scored. He ran this fixture a year ago but was subdued this time. No space to pick a pass. 5 Lucas Moura Desperate for space, he finally arrived at start of the second half when he hit a post, but it proved no foundation for success. 6 Harry Kane Has not looked 100 per cent since the third week of the World Cup, but his presence usually leads to goals. Not this time. Strangely anonymous. 5 Subs: Erik Lamela (for Dembele, 60); Son Heung-min (for Winks, 73); Wanyama (for Dier, 83).
