British Olympic sprinter James Dasaolu has started a public fundraising attempt to raise £25,000 to pay for “vital” surgery that will allow him to carry on competing. The 31-year-old ruptured an Achilles tendon on Friday and fears his career will be over if he cannot raise the funds. “This is the biggest challenge I’ve faced,” he told the BBC. “I have been feeling great and fast, but just felt a ‘pop’ in my heel in training and it was heart-wrenching to get the diagnosis.” Advanced techniques can more than halve the normal two-year rehabilitation time.
