Sunderland share spoils
Sunderland and Luton both finished with 10 men as the two League One promotion hopefuls battled to a 1-1 draw at the Stadium of Light. Victory for Sunderland would have seen them leapfrog their opponents into second place in the table. They made the perfect start when Chris Maguire scored after 16 minutes. Luton, who lost their manager, Nathan Jones, this week, levelled in the 67th minute through James Collins’ penalty but then had Danny Hylton sent off for an aerial challenge. Sunderland failed to make the numerical advantage count before Maguire received a red card for an alleged stamp in injury-time.
Portsmouth’s lead at the top of the table was trimmed to just four points, as they lost 1-0 to Blackpool.
