The young Australian star of the new film Pan also flies the world as the baby face of Polo Ralph Lauren’s junior line

Meet the 12-year-old Ralph Lauren model who is the new Peter Pan

If Peter Pan is the boy that never grows up, the latest newcomer to step into his shadow on the big screen, 12-year-old Levi Miller from Brisbane, Australia, is something of an old soul. A fashion-buff in the making, Levi is the ambassador for Polo Ralph Lauren’s pint-sized line. He recently made his runway debut launching the latest collection, at Central Park Zoo in New York, where he also promoted children’s literacy and the film Pan (out in October), in which he stars with Hugh Jackman, Rooney Mara and Cara Delevingne.

I never studied acting but I used to watch my sisters dancing when I was five and I’d be so jealous – I wanted to be up there on stage. I couldn’t dance, but I always wanted to do acting. My mum said I was too clumsy. I haven’t broken a bone but I’ve been stitched up many times.

I auditioned for Pan in Australia, then I was flown over to LA, which was my first time in the United States, and then to London to do the “chemistry test” with Garrett [Hedlund, playing Hook]. The trick is to not think you’ll get the role, because then if you don’t you’ll be very disappointed. I just thought, “I’ve made it this far and it’s been an amazing experience.”

We filmed Pan in London. I loved it, especially when it was sunny. And I loved English fish and chips and all the old buildings, but my favourite place so far has to be LA. The whole vibe there is so laidback – unless you go into the full-on places like West Hollywood.

It was so much fun making Pan. I loved meeting all the people, finding out their jobs and seeing the amazing sets and all the hard work that goes into making a film.

My favourite Pan character is Tiger Lily [played by Mara]. She’s brilliant. I read the book Peter Pan when I was 10 and loved it. I also love superheroes like Flash, because he’s so fast. I like Arrow and Superman, too – oh, and Supergirl, she’s cool.

Ralph Lauren has so many different types of outfits. I dress differently for different occasions and I like colour. My sisters are my fashion monitors. When I was younger my mum used to dress me, but now I have my own sense of style. I always ask my sisters if this is OK. One of them lives in London so I take pics and send them to her.

I have missed a lot of school. I just started high school, but it has been a busy year. I did another film [ Blue Dog], re-shoots for Pan, and the Ralph Lauren campaign. I think I’m a pretty good student – I like all subjects, but my favourites are English and maths. I’d like to keep doing films and being tutored. I’m excited to see where the wind takes me.

My favourite animal is the sloth. They are just so cute. I watch all the Meet the Sloths TV shows; they are just walking around chilling, not harming anyone.

Jennifer Lawrence is cool. I’d like to meet lots of people but she is the main person. I loved The Hunger Games and all the other films she is in – she’s an amazing actress. My all-time favourite film is Back to the Future.

Facebook is so confusing. I have it but I don’t understand it. I’m starting to get into Twitter but I am more on Instagram. I like posting things but I am not a foodie, it’s more pictures of me or the landscape.

I’d love to be an adult. I’m not immature: I know when it’s time to go to bed, and I don’t need to be monitored by my mum.

I am a person that gets quite star struck. My perfect day was going to Comic-Con – it was amazing. I remember walking out of the green room and seeing a thousand famous people, like Amy Adams and Jesse Eisenberg, and I felt totally star struck.
