How Bethan Holt does the work/party style juggle

December is the time of full-to-bursting diaries, but we’ve still got to go to the office too, you know. The Telegraph’s fashion news and features director reveals her desk-to-party dressing formula

TAKE A BLOCK-COLOUR BASIC…

I’ve found that single-colour pieces are easier to dress up than printed ones, so this festive Joseph design has been a go-to when I need to make it from 9am to 9pm.

…ADD BOOTS THAT GO ANYWHERE…

These white Mango kitten heels are one of my buys of the season. The comfy heel means they’re great for all-day wear, and the low cut works with skirts, dresses and trousers.

…AND SMART LAYERS…

I have an ever-expanding array of plain polo-necks. Floaty dresses are easily made winter-appropriate by one worn underneath. Uniqlo and Asos do the best.

…THEN FINISH WITH BLING

A statement accessory is a wise investment at this time of year. An embellished drawstring pouch or drop earrings will add instant luxe to simple outfits.

IN CASE OF EMERGENCIES

I have a plan of action for last-minute invitations. I have some gold and resin earrings, a small evening bag and a red Nars lipstick under my desk so I can do a swift swap come 6pm.
