Don’t fall foul of the rules, or you’re toast

-

here’s been some sniggering about BBC staff recently, after “an incident” where someone tried to make cheese on toast by putting cheese through the toaster. A notice subsequently went up in the BBC canteen reminding employees that the toaster was only be used for “plain sliced bread, bagels and muffins”. It reminded me of my boarding school, supposedly full of quite bright girls, but where our weary matron was always telling her charges off for putting tins in the microwave or tea bags in the kettle. Not me, though. Oh no. I was much more sensible. OK, I used to stick a knife in the toaster to retrieve trapped slices of bread, but there’s nothing wrong with that, right?
