A few miles farther along, we visit the dramatic three-stepped Aysgarth Falls on the river Ure which has drawn millions of visitors for centuries, including the likes of Wordsworth and the artist J M W Turner – while James and Helen explored this honeypot site during their on-screen courting days.

That evening, we finish our jaunt at the cosy Wensleydale Heifer, West Witton. After a delicious meal, it’s time to head south to Somerset and, as requested by the children, more reruns of All Creatures Great and Small. I don’t complain!
