The Sunday Telegraph - Sunday

The mystery is that I am not yet baffled by Line of Duty

-

The other major news of the week was that, for the first time ever, I understood an episode of Line of Duty without having to text the family WhatsApp group and ask what was going on. True, like the rest of the country, I had to Google what a CHIS is (Covert Human Intelligence Source, or just a “source” to the rest of us), but apart from that I found it entirely straightforward. Newspaper reports about the returning BBC series claimed that many viewers declared it “baffling” and “incomprehensible” but come on, everyone. All we know now is that a woman was murdered and nice Kelly Macdonald (who may turn out to be less nice) is trying to solve it. Presumably I’ll be lost five minutes into episode two, but as one who’s frequently confused by really quite simple plot lines in Midsomer Murders, I’m delighted.
