Go to your local leisure centre. Ask for information about local sports clubs and, depending on your age and ability, see if there is a veterans or development team.

Visit the website of the national governing body for the sport you’re interested in. For instance, you can find a netball club near you by entering your postcode on englandnetball.co.uk

Head to Facebook and enter the sport you’re looking for, and the area where you live, into the search bar. Click on “groups” so that you can find corresponding teams near you.

Search on the site MeetUp (meetup.com), which is dedicated to trying out hobbies with others.

Keep an eye on local community boards, in case there are advertisements for new teams. Likewise, it could be worth reaching out on the site Nextdoor (nextdoor. co.uk), which connects you to your neighbours.

Contact your local Age UK branch, as the charity will usually offer some sort of sport in your area.
