Why pay for logs if you’ve got a forest on your doorstep?

-

A confession: I bought my first batch of logs for the fire pit from Amazon. I found what seemed a decent amount of very dry timber for £30 and clicked buy, confident that I’d bought enough to see me through the next month. Imagine my astonishment, therefore, when approximately 10 logs were delivered in a small cardboard box the following day. They were pretty dry but that only meant that my fire pit chomped through them even faster. As Sunday Telegraph readers, you probably have your own forests and don’t have to worry about anything so vulgar as paying for logs. I merely offer this as a warning to anyone else who’s recently splashed out on a fire pit. After lunch on Saturday, I filled my boot with wood from my sister’s shed instead, which was excellent as it was free.
