SIMPLE TOUCHES
rest of your style will follow – it’s an easy launch-pad.
The jeans and coat ensemble of look one (left) is something I would easily wear on the school run, and then race to the train to London in. The seersucker gingham shirtdress shown in look two (above) – by &Daughter, who make their pieces in Scotland and Ireland (their knitwear is sublime) – is a voluminous style that you can throw on after a little excess at the weekend. No need to pull in the tummy: it’s meant to look big and wafty – my goodness these are comfortable. It is a step up from whatever you might be used to throwing on in lockdown, but it requires zero thought.
Shoes and bags are an easy way to up your game. And a word on gym kit. Make an effort to change out of your gear post session: we have a new freedom to embrace and you have a wardrobe full of clothes to wear; smartening up, even just a little, at home or on the move, can be an enjoyable part of this. (La Pochette has water-resistant, antibacterial bags made from recycled plastic bottles, right, to keep your kit in.)
Finally, may I also suggest the power of brow mascara? With or without Zoom meetings on your agenda, its magic can brighten your day. I rate Blink Brow Bar (bbb-london.com) and Anastasia (anastasiabeverlyhills.com). This is a low-maintenance boost for those who are not yet inclined to adjust their wardrobe settings. Small steps.
Or why not take a leaf out of Anya Hindmarch’s new book? It’s called If in Doubt, Wash Your Hair. Carpe diem – in style.
