Be sure to avoid the milk of human kindness

-

Work fridges are often perilous places, whether they store wine or ancient salad leaves. I recall an alarming afternoon in the Tatler office one day, when I went to make a cup of tea only to open the fridge and find a feathery brace of pheasants lying in a Waitrose bag, necks tied with binder twine. “WARNING!” said a note from Eve, the magazine’s picture editor, who had been shooting the previous day, “2 pheasants (with faces etc) in here, please don’t remove!” A mole tells me that another former Tatler employee, before my time, used the same fridge to store her expressed breast milk. The trouble was the employee was apparently very unpopular, so her colleagues used to turn off the fridge, making the milk go rancid. Workplace politics, eh, Boris?
