WEAR MATTE FOUNDATION
Gone are the days when we needed to pile on powder to even out our complexions. But that doesn’t mean to say we need to use shiny, dewy foundations that only really look good on younger skin, either. “Generally, it’s better not to cake on foundation,” says Hammer. She advises instead building fine layers of concealer, which gives more dense coverage, so that you only need a little, such as under the eyes, around the nose or areas of pigmentation. Pat on a product, such as the Bare With Me Concealer Serum by Nyx Cosmetics (£11, boots.com), which has a serum-like texture that looks natural and won’t crease. “A light to medium cover-up is always better and looks more modern than a full face of foundation,” says Hammer, who thinks Gwyneth Paltrow, 49, nails the no make-up make-up look. If you prefer a more matte foundation, Maybelline has just launched its Instant Age Rewind Perfector 4-in-1 (£13.99, lookfantastic.com), which smooths the complexion, giving a matte effect without looking “cakey”.
