NATURAL BEAUTY 10/10

The ice-blue water and coarse sand, which can be easily brushed off, make this one of Naxos’s more photogenic beaches. There are views across to Paros.

TOWEL SPACE 7/10

This one-mile stretch is firmly on the tourist map, with sunbeds outside bars and cafés. There is usually space to set up camp in between them, though.

LOCAL AMENITIES 7/10 Expect tavernas at both ends of the beach, along with shops and resort facilities in the south. It is best to arrive by bus if not staying nearby. Cafés become bars in time for sunset.

GENTLE WATERS 5/10 Mostly flat and diamond-clear, the water is enticing and the sand kind to little feet. Though shallow initially, there is a drop-off further out, so children will need warning and close watching.

THINGS TO DO 7/10

There is windsurfing and banana-boating in summer, as well as worthwhile snorkelling at the quieter northern end.

The Liana Beach Hotel & Spa (00 30 2285 042 522; lianahotel.com) offers doubles from £66 per night. EasyJet (easyjet.com) flies London to Naxos from £40 return

Covid rules There are currently no restrictions on entry to Greece
