NATURAL BEAUTY 6/10 There are views across to the magnificent Pyrenees, but the vast, coarsesand beach itself is not the Languedoc region’s most beautiful.

TOWEL SPACE 9/10

This is a great beach for active children in need of plenty of space. The familyfocused resort is more than four-miles long, meaning that it is easy to find space for some impromptu Frisbeethrowing or beach cricket.

LOCAL AMENITIES 8/10 Beyond the tree-lined promenade is everything you might need, including a marina, cafés, shops, parks, playgrounds and parking. Everything bar a good, upmarket restaurant, if we’re being picky.

GENTLE WATERS 7/10

This is another Blue Flag beach, so families can expect clean water, and lifeguards, meaning children can paddle and swim with confidence. The sea is mostly calm and deepens gradually.

THINGS TO DO 10/10

On the sand, pre-schoolers can enjoy inflatables, trampolines and a swimming school, while there are also paddleboards and kayaks to hire. Water parks and adventure playgrounds – including a terrifying-looking canyoning park – are set a little further back.

The Grand Hôtel du Lido (00 33 4 68 81 10 32; hotel-le-lido.com) offers doubles from £83 per night. Ryanair (ryanair. com) flies from London to Toulouse from £26 return

Covid rules Travellers over 12 must show proof of vaccination, or a negative PCR test taken within the past 72 hours, or a negative antigen test taken within the past 48 hours, in place of proof of vaccination. Children under 12 are exempt from all travel restrictions
