FIRST AND LAST CARRIAGES, NORFOLK
When Jo Midenhall found herself at a loose end in lockdown, she bought a couple of disused railway carriages from a local farmer, and brought them to their final destination: her garden in the North Norfolk countryside. She and her husband, a builder, took them from pig digs to rustic hideaway, with tongue and groove and bright textiles, installing bathrooms and bijou kitchens, outdoor furniture for alfresco living, and a fire-pit shack for marshmallow toasting whatever the weather.
First and Last Carriages, each sleeps two (plus one dog), from £344 for three nights, with Holiday Cottages (holidaycottages.co.uk/cottage/87101first-carriage)
