Daley despairs as he dives out of competition
TOM DALEY was “heartbroken” last night after he crashed out of Rio 2016 without even making the final of the individual 10m platform diving event.
Daley, 22, had been favourite for gold after setting an Olympic record as he came first in Friday’s qualifying round.
But his form deserted him yesterday and after an uncharacteristically errorstrewn performance he came last in the semi-final. A despondent Daley said: “I truly am heartbroken, because I really do feel I’m in peak physical condition, and I could have gone out there and won tonight. It’s really hard to accept how it went today.
“I want to be Olympic champion – that’s been my dream since I was a kid.” Daley had won bronze in the 10m synchro event.
