Knifeman shatters peace of supermodel’s ‘very private’ home
POLICE were last night investigating the shooting of an intruder at the California mansion of Miranda Kerr, the supermodel.
A security guard working for Kerr was stabbed in the eye by the suspect, who jumped the fence at her Malibu mansion on Friday morning.
The knife-wielding man was shot four times, including once in the head, during the altercation. Both men are receiving treatment in a Los Angeles hospital.
Kerr, 33, bought the $12 million (£9.8million) house following her divorce from actor Orlando Bloom, but has recently been reported as spending much of her time at the home of her fiancé, Snapchat founder Evan Spiegel.
The former Victoria’s Secret model told Harper’s Bazaar Australia earlier this year that she liked the house because “it was protected from the wind and very private”.
The tussle was witnessed by a neighbour and some construction workers nearby.
One of the witnesses came to the aid of the injured security guard by scaling the front fence.
“The man, after he was shot, still held the knife and was going after the security man so my guy kicked the knife out of the perpetrator’s hands,” the neighbour, who only gave his name as Jerry, told Los Angeles tel- evision station CBS2. Police arrived at the home of the Australian model just before midday on Friday, responding to reports of a fight involving a person with a gun. Kerr, who lives there with her five-year-old son Flynn, was not home at the time. “When the deputies arrived they found an armed security guard was involved in a physical altercation with an intruder,” said Sgt James Braden, of the Los Angeles sheriff ’s department.
“During the physical altercation, the intruder stabbed the armed security guard and the armed security guard shot the intruder.
“There were no occupants in the house at the time of this incident,” Sgt Braden said.
“The incident took place on the property, but not inside the house.” The security guard is in a stable condition in hospital and the intruder is reportedly in critical condition with nonlife threatening injuries.
