Prisoners damage cells in rampage at jail
Specialist prison officers had to be sent in after rioting inmates “went on the rampage” at Lewes prison yesterday.
Cells and offices at the jail in East Sussex were damaged in the “serious disturbance”, according to the Prison Officers Association, which blamed “poor management and severe shortage of staff ”.
A spokesman for the Ministry of Justice said: “Prisoners who behave this way will be punished.”
