Christians in Iraq

-

SIR – As we consider how to help vulnerable children from the Calais Jungle, we should also spare a thought – as well as a place in our homes – for the Christians of Bartella in Iraq (report, October 23).

We are a Christian country, and these poor people are from one of the oldest Christian towns in the world. They fled their homes with the arrival of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant 26 months ago, and have since lived in squalid camps.

Isil has been defeated there for now, but many homes have been taken. These Christians now fear they have no future in Iraq – or, indeed, the Middle East. We must help them. E M Burton Cheam, Surrey
