Elephants freed from bomb crater

Eleven endangered wild elephants were rescued in Cambodia yesterday, after spending four days stuck in a mud-filled bomb crater left over from the war in neighbouring Vietnam.

The chief of the region’s environment department, Keo Sopheak, said that the elephants had apparently tried to drink water from the 3m-deep (10ft) hole but that they had become stuck in the mud.
