Hundreds held at Belarus protest

Hundreds of demonstrators were arrested yesterday as they attempted to hold a street protest in Minsk.

The crackdown in the capital of Belarus follows public anger over falling living standards and a tax on the unemployed.

Many of those held in the latest challenge to President Alexander Lukashenko were beaten by police. At least 10 journalists were arrested.
